I'm an outdoor enthusiast masquerading as a quantitative marine ecologist. I work at the University of California, Davis as an Assistant Professor, based out of the beautiful Bodega Marine Laboratory. My research interests revolve around evidence-based management and conservation in the marine environment (see research page for more). I like to use field studies and statistical modelling to tackle questions about aquaculture sustainability and threats to imperiled wildlife, from salmon to abalone.
I'm incredibly lucky to be involved in many amazing non-research endeavours. I co-authored the Pacific Salmon Field Guide. I provided western science support for the Mamalilikulla, ‘Namgis, and Kwikwasut’lnuxw Haxwa’mis First Nations as they managed (and ultimately removed) salmon farms in their territories. I've served on COSEWIC for several years, where I help assess the conservation status of marine fishes for listing under Canada's Species at Risk Act. Lastly, I'm on the board of directors for Salmon Coast Field Station, the place where I fell in love with marine ecology.

I am a PhD student in the UC Davis Animal Biology Graduate Group, co-advised by Sean Godwin and Christina Pasparakis. I earned my bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution, with a minor in Global Health. In the Godwin Lab, my research centers on food security and evidence-based management of marine fishes, with extensive fieldwork at the Salmon Coast Field Station in British Columbia. My PhD work focuses on how large-scale salmon farm removal affects the health of wild juvenile salmon in British Columbia, while separately exploring the broader role of salmon aquaculture in global food security. Through my research, I strive to connect conservation science with applied management and policy decisions.
I am a recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, the NSF Sustainable Oceans Traineeship, and the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center Fellowship. Beyond research, I enjoy traveling, wildlife photography, and cuddling my many pets.

I’m a PhD student doing research to help save a species! For my PhD research, I'm collaborating with the White Abalone Captive Breeding Program to discover how to efficiently cultivate endangered white abalone for outplanting in the wild. I will also be working with Salmon Coast Society to understand the transmission dynamics of parasitic sea lice between wild and farmed salmon in Pacific Canada. I'm broadly interested in marine ecology, disease management, and aquaculture, and I'm driven to find ways to connect science with society.
I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with two degrees in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and History, and my experience ranges from intensive bench work (e.g., DNA extraction and 16S sequencing) to field research in all kinds of habitats along the Pacific coast. When not at work, you can find me gallivanting with my dog Ripley, scavenging for thrifted records, or engrossed in a good movie.
